| On the
gang plank just before we boarded was the obligatory family picture. It was
something of an adventure just getting to the ship thru all the lines we had
to wait in. |
 |
| This
is our room. there were 4 small beds, 2 that pulled down from the ceiling.
Plus we had a porthole. |
 |
| This
was the first stop in Ketchikan. This is almost the entire town. |
 |
| This
is a pan shot of Ketchikan. We had to anchor in the water and take the
lifeboats to shore. One of the lifeboats is at far right. |
 |
| This
is a shot from shore in Ketchikan out to our ship. |
 |
| Here
we are approaching the Hubbard Glacier. Notice the pool is empty. It was
really cold and windy. The pools were hardly used the entire trip. |
 |
| Here
we are getting closer to Hubbard Glacier. The rainbow was very bright, but
its hard to get a decent shot of a rainbow.... especially when the
temperature is about freezing with a 30 mph wind! |
 |
| This
is the right side of the Glacier and I just missed a chunk of ice falling
off. You can't tell by the picture, but the ice is 200 feet high. I'm on the
12th deck of the ship, which is itself about 120 feet above the water. |

| Me and
Mallory with Hubbard in the background. |
 |
| The
stage shows every night were unexpectedly good. Very good singers and
dancers. And I got snagged from the audience to go up on stage and sit in a
chair while the girls danced around.
The rest of the trip people would say
"hey... we saw you on stage". |
 |
| This
is pretty much the entire town of Juneau, which is the capital of Alaska. We
actually got to dock at the wharf which made getting on and off easier. |
 |
| This
is Marissa standing in front of a totem pole by a museum in Juneau. |
 |
| And
this is a pan shot of Juneau from the ship's deck 10. A pretty small town
considering its the capital. |
 |
| This
is our ship in the harbor at Sitka Island.
Sitka was the best
city we stopped at, very clean and a cute little town. There are lots of
little side excursions to take here, but we only had time to walk thru a
nearby Rainforest that had a bunch of totem poles in it and very tall trees. |
 |
|
Mallory and I walked up to look at an old Russian cemetery (Sitka was
originally Russian). We ran out of time before we could get to the cemetery,
but took this picture back towards town. The little house was some sort of
old fortification building. |
 |
| This
is the walk thru the rainforest. There were a lot of totem poles like this
made by the native Tlingit Indians. |
 |
| A
closer view of one of the totem poles. These aren't actually the originals,
but were reproductions made about 70 years ago. |
 |
|
Another of the many totem poles. |
 |
| Most
of the evening meals were formal or informal. This is Debra and me dressed
up for one of them. |
 |
| And
Mallory and Marissa during a formal meal. |
 |
| The
meals were really great. And this is our main waiter, Peter. He really made
the dinner enjoyable.
Exceptional service Peter! |
 |
| And
this is our Assistant Waiter, George (Jorge). He kept Marissa and Megan
(actually all of us at the table) entertained with his riddles and jokes.
Thanks a lot
George! |
 |
| This
is the Maitre d', Luis.
Luis, we had a wonderful time. Maybe we
can do this again sometime. |
 |
| The
picture I took of Mallory at a formal dinner had red eyes. So until I can
fix that picture, this is the best I have of Mallory from the trip.
By the way, Mallory
was the bravest at the dinner table. She had escargo, quail and ox tail
soup. She said they were great and she is still alive, so maybe they aren't
as bad as they sound. |
 |
| And
this is a good picture of Marissa. |
